Origins of the CVS

Barry Lustig developed the CVS after working with many professionally-oriented clients and noticing a major gap in the career assessment instruments available to them. Most instruments were aimed at younger populations who were at earlier stages of career and occupational exploration.

Furthermore, most instruments were geared to a general audience including high school, college, and general adult populations. He felt there was a need for an instrument that was specifically oriented to address the needs of professionally-oriented individuals who often felt that the instruments available did not provide enough in-depth information about their vocational interests, skills, and personality characteristics to meet their needs. They also felt that the occupations listed were often limited and not up-to-date.
