About the CVS

Information Pertaining to Validity

The CVS is not a psychological test. It was designed as a tool to facilitate the self-exploration and career exploration process and was heavily influenced by Dr. Leo Goldman’s work on exploratory validity. It is our hope in the near future to undertake a validity study. However, we do strongly believe that the CVS contains content validity (based on its content), construct validity (we relied solely on Holland-based constructs), face validity, and exploratory validity (most individuals report an increased level of self and career/occupational exploration and awareness after completing the CVS.)

Additional Remarks

The CVS provides an opportunity to assess yourself on major factors and dimensions that relate to your career success and satisfaction. It can provide an opportunity to develop the self-knowledge to understand your combination of characteristics, including your strengths and weaknesses, and your vocational interests, preferences, and values. It can also help you to better understand your skills and abilities, your work-related personality traits, and what your career orientation (primary Career Vectors) entails so that you can use this insight to make wise choices. You can use this knowledge to develop a career action plan.

It is our hope that with the expanded self and occupational knowledge gained from completing the CVS, you will be better able to make more informed and satisfying career-related choices and decisions and further your career development and life satisfaction. Happiness in one’s work is an essential component of life satisfaction.

If you feel the need for additional assistance with your career planning and career management efforts, we encourage you to consider working with a professional career counselor who can help guide you through the career development/career management process, help you to better understand and apply your CVS results, and assist you with any specific career-related needs and concerns that you may have.
